Are you unsatisfied with your community mental health job?

It’s true, your heart is in the right place. You signed up to help the most vulnerable communities and you knew this would come at a cost. As time has gone on, you realize the cases keep coming. Actually, they don’t slow down at all. You keep reminding yourself, I am doing the good work, I am making a difference! The productivity never stops and if you ever have a chance to think about the work and question whether you are making a dent, it overwhelms you. This overwhelming feeling continues and it begins to impact your own mental health. The ‘shoulds’ begin. ‘I should be able to manage’, ‘I should take time off’, ‘I should be okay’. The constant stress of being in this environment is overwhelming and making you question your competence and ability to continue. The truth is, your needs are not being met. You are no longer taking breaks, vacation feels distant, and you are not being compensated enough.

Are you unclear about your goals?

You remember being motivated in the beginning of your career. Excited and maybe anxious about when you were going to graduate, how many hours you had, the specialties you were going to explore. Whether you are an associate or licensed, you now wonder where that motivation went. The tunnel vision is real, a protective skill you have used to get through the days! Unable to see the bigger picture you begin to feel overwhelmed with decision making and remain clear on your goals.

Motivation, where are you?

As 2020 showed, agencies prioritize. Through ongoing stressors and ‘hard times’, agencies refrained from becoming politically involved. Billing and note turn around expectations continued. Email reminders began to hit your inbox, the focus? It was not on the stress and impact on the vulnerable communities you signed up to serve but on the fact that THIS WAS A BUSINESS, the show must go own. This disillusionment has led you here. Wondering whether there is hope, exploring whether others are feeling the same way.

I have and I am now ready to support you in making changes to meet your goals. Reconnect to your why.
